ana sofia newton
Dr. Ana S. Newton is an Associate Research Scientist in the Department of Chemistry at Yale University. Dr. Newton helps develop small inhibitors to treat cancer, HIV and other autoimmune diseases using both computational and synthetic skills. Holding a Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry and a B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Lisbon, Dr. Newton has been recognized with awards such as the Melanoma Research Alliance Postdoctoral Research Fellowship, São Paulo Advanced School of Chemistry Fellowship, and Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia Scholarship. Outside of work, Dr. Newton is co-founder of the Yale Undergraduate Portuguese Association (YUPA) and served as founder and first president of the Joint Safety Team, an organization that promotes safe laboratory practices in the Yale Chemistry Department containing over 300 researchers.
